| Why is there anti-american propaganda in Europe? Let me clarify this first, when I say things on here its not a certain ALWAYS or NEVER. It mostly means majority, as with many other things. Europe complains sometimes about how Americans are ignorant, how they're fat, how we just follow as said. Well, its not only America. It is in Europe also, Anti-American media to make America all generally ******* the same. I saw a couple videos on YouTube that samples some of said media, and it was mostly lies. Some videos were painfully obvious that they were staged. In one, a news reporter pretended to be New Zealand president and questioned "Americans" and they all answered stupidly... like for example "name a country that starts with U" and the "American" said Utah. My mind was really blown at the nonsense. Btw the channel that did that was CNNNN. However, a lot of Americans *are* ignorant and stupid and such. Education here only teaches us about our country, religion is ******* drilled in people's minds (Im atheist), and if you are a liberal in a conservative neighborhood, or vice versa, intelligent debate about politics is almost non-existent. But from some videos of a portion of the European media, most of these things are exaggerated. So what really is up with this Anti-American vibe in Europe? Is it to oppose or "Far Righter" capitalism? Is it to make sure you don't leave or something (probably not)? | To be honest, and not flippant. I reckon its as a result of a few factors 1) The majority of Americans, for a variety of reasons, ie lack of travel, very US centered media, ARE very ignorant of the world. I know the videos you refer to, and they are the extreme and done for comedy, and most europeans know well that the americans aren't THAT ignorant, just that they are ignorant in general. 2) The ignorant ways that the American media portrays the rest of the world. Remember, we get your television shows. The irish are all brawling sectarian drunkards who are technological barbarians, not a young tech-savvy modern society, the english are snooty polo playing crumpet eating snobs, and not a vibrant multicultural country, the germans are all order obsessed, leiderhose wearing semi-nazis etc... Europe isn't perfect, by any means. Loads of problems, but generally speaking Europeans are more worldly in the outlook, For example if you compare Fox News, or CNN to the likes of the BBC, France 24, Euronews etc,. I'm not blaming the americans for this. I blame America. Most americans, and many canadians too, simply cannot travel the same way europeans can. We have at minimum 4 weeks off a year, plus live in an environment, where it is completely feasible for one to spend a weekend in a completely different country and culture for a weeks pay. Whereas most americans that do travel outside the states(a small minority) can only afford the time or expense to maybe do a 2 week grand tour of europe in a lifetime. |
